College Hosts Annual Faculty Retreat: August 16-17


The College of Dentistry's annual faculty retreat will be held this year at Hueston Woods Lodge and Conference Center, August 16-17.

 

 

This year's faculty retreat will be an overnight event held at the Hueston Woods Lodge and Conference Center near Oxford, Ohio. The retreat begins Thursday morning (the 16th) with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Sessions end Friday (the 17th) at 3:00 p.m.

The Program: The retreat agenda features several guest speakers, including Jerry Friedman, JD, an OSU Health Policy Advisor and Director of Government Affairs, and Associate Vice President of Health Services; and David Owsiany, JD, Executive Director of the Ohio Dental Association, who will speak about the Affordable Care Act and its implications for Ohioans.

Also on the program is Dr. John Valenza, Dean of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry, and Dr. Christian Stohler, Dean of the University of Maryland College of Dentistry. Both will discuss the design and planning of their new dental school facilities.

Other speakers are Dr. Denis Lynch, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Marquette University School of Dentistry, who will present information on small group practice clinics; and Dr. Robert Weyant, Associate Dean of Dental Public Health and Community Outreach at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, whose presentation will focus on evidence-based dentistry. Dr. John Kalmar, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, also will lead an interactive discussion about our college's competencies in preparation for the 2013 accreditation site visit.
